چکیده

oocyte activation (aoa), results in high fertilization rates. objective: this prospective, randomized, unblinded clinical study aimed to evaluate the efficiency of calcium ionophore on fertilization and pregnancy rate after intracytoplasmic sperm injection (icsi) in infertile men suffer from teratoospermia. materials and methods: thirty eight women with teratoospermic partner underwent icsi with gnrh-antagonist protocol. a total of 313 metaphase ii (mii) oocytes were randomly divided after icsi into two groups: in the oocytes of the control group (n=145), routine icsi was applied. oocytes in the aoa group (n=168) immediately after icsi, were cultured in culture medium supplemented with 5 μμ calcium/100 μm calcium ionophore (a23187) for 5 minutes and then washed at least three times with mops solution. in both groups, the fertilization was evaluated 16-18 hours after icsi. results: the number of embryos obtained and fertilized oocytes were significantly different between two groups (p=0.04 for each). there was no significantly difference between the two studied groups in the fertilization and cleavage rate. (95.33% vs. 89.56 %; and 84.4% vs. 87.74%; respectively, p<0.05) implantation rate was higher in aoa group than in control group, but the difference was not significant. (17.64% vs. 7.4%, p=0.14). no significant differences were observed in chemical and clinical pregnancy rate between groups (47.1% vs. 16.7%, p=0.07; and 41.2% vs. 16.7%; p=0.14, respectively). conclusion: oocyte activation with calcium ionophore may improve icsi outcomes in infertile men suffer from teratoospermia. although, we found no significant difference in the implantation and pregnancy rate between the two groups of patients. further study with more cases can provide greater value.

Effects of assisted oocyte activation with calcium- ionophore and strontium chloride on in vitro ICSI outcomes

Objective(s): Failed fertilization after intra-cytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI) is mainly attributed to failed oocyte activation and can be overcome by artificial oocyte activation (AOA). The present study aims to compare in vitro outcomes of ICSI following two different assisted oocyte activation chemical procedures (SrCl2 and Ionomycin) in sibling oocytes of ICSI candidates.Materials and Me...

Effect of calcium ionophore on unfertilized oocytes after ICSI cycles

BACKGROUND Fertilization failure is one of the most problems in assisted reproduction technology (ART). OBJECTIVE The aim of this study was the evaluation of oocytes activation by addition of calcium ionophore in unfertilized oocytes in ICSI cycles. MATERIALS AND METHODS This study was done on 15 ICSI cycles (stimulated with standard long protocol). Mature retrieved oocytes with normal morp...

P-97: Parthenogenetic Activation of Mouse Oocyte Using Calcium Ionophore in The Presence of Different Concentrations of Extracellular Calcium

Background: Parthenogenetic activation is a possible way to produce homogeneous embryos with the some ploidy. Probably such embryos could be used in other areas of biotechnology. Calcium signals are known as important regulators of oocyte activation. Extracellular calcium is required for initiation of meiotic resumption and development. Calcium ionophore A23187 is known to elevate intracellular...

a successful healthy childbirth in a case of total globozoospermia with oocyte activation by calcium ionophore

background: globozoospermia is a rare (incidence of 0.1% among andrological patients) and poorly understood condition, but a severe disorder in male infertility. this case report detailed the course of treatment and protocol of a patient with type 1 globozoospermia using intracytoplasmic sperm injection (icsi) and oocyte activation by calcium ionophore, which yielded conception and birth of a h...
